Socialist Workers' Party of Croatia calls for boycott due to Israel

The Socialist Workers' Party of Croatia (SRP) joins a group of organizations: Initiative for a Free Palestine, Unconquered Palestine, Students for Palestine and For Bread, which have called on the public to boycott the European Gymnastics Championships: "Boycott the competition in Zagreb, do not buy tickets, share this information with family, friends, colleagues at work ," a message that the media has largely boycotted. This competition is one of the largest to date, taking place from August 13-16 for women and from August 19-23 for men in the Zagreb Arena.

The Party declared:

"Why the boycott?

First of all, because the Croatian Gymnastics Federation invited athletes from Israel to the competition, a country whose government pursues a criminal and genocidal policy towards its neighbors, especially towards the people and territory of Palestine, where, in addition to numerous victims and great material damage, almost a thousand Palestinian athletes have been killed and around 300 sports facilities have been destroyed in the war since 2023. Despite the fact that nothing remains of sports, as well as of society, in Gaza, Palestinian gymnasts have been preparing for this competition in recent months.

We call on the authorities in Croatia not to be slaves to sportswashing, Israeli genocide and apartheid, but, like the Indonesian government, which refused to issue visas to Israeli gymnasts for the World Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta at the end of 2025, to respect the equality of all competitors who represent their country with dignity, and for the Republic of Croatia to consistently respect and implement international laws and conventions."
