Workers' Party of Bangladesh protests US Independence Day celebrations in parliament

In a statement, the acting president of the Workers' Party of Bangladesh Central Committee, Mahmudul Hasan Manik, and the acting general secretary, Nur Ahmed Bakul, expressed their strong criticism and anger at the current government for celebrating American Independence Day at the South Plaza of the Parliament Building.

The leaders said that America, or US imperialism, opposed the liberation war and independence of Bangladesh. By sending the 7th fleet to fight the liberation war at that time, the chapter of the '71 genocide was not forgotten in the history of the Bengali nation.

The joint celebration of this event at the South Plaza by the current BNP government party and the opposition party was a mockery of the history of the liberation war. Not only that, but it was a naked manifestation of the US imperialist appeasement policy by abandoning the diplomatic policy of equality.

The imperialist appeasement policy has not brought prosperity to any country. In the end, the people's democracy has won the fight for independence. The people of Bangladesh have already expressed their dissatisfaction against the Bangladesh-US unequal agreement. It will be more intense in the future. There is no difference between BNP and Jamaat in appeasing US imperialism. Just as Jamaat brokered America in '71, it has continued to do so.

The leaders concluded their intervention with a call: "We call on all progressive, nationalist, and democratic forces to unite in the struggle against US imperialism and fundamentalism in this country."
