Student Festivals of KNE took off in Attica and Central Macedonia
The annual Student Festivals organized by the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) kicked off on May 16-17, filling squares, parks, and local neighbourhoods with youth energy, cultural creativity, and political discussion.
The festivals featured a diverse array of activities entirely built on volunteer work, solidarity, and collective effort, including sports tournaments, live music performances, artistic expressions, political exhibitions, interviews, debates, and interactive games. Besides high school students, speakers such as a javelin champion and a fighter of the DSE (Democratic Army of Greece) delivered speeches in front of the vibrant youth.
The execution of 200 communists on May Day 1944 in Kaisariani was commemorated with speeches and artistic creations. High school students also commemorated their two 17-year-old classmates, who ended their lives in Ilioupoli due to overwhelming anxiety over Greece’s nationwide university entrance exams.
Under this year's slogan, “In the rules, exceptions make the difference and write history! Come write it together,” the festivals mark the ultimate end-of-school-year gathering for high school students across the country. Speakers at last weekend’s events emphasized that the "exception to the rule" means thousands of youth organizing together to challenge a system defined by injustice, commercialized education, and war.
The KNE Student Festivals will continue their journey throughout May and June, expanding to more municipalities, towns, and islands across Greece, inviting every young person to take a stand and make their voice heard.
