Request for an extraordinary session on Palestine at European Parliament

The continued aggression carried out by Israel against the Palestinian people is worsening the already dramatic situation in the Gaza Strip, as well as the situation in the West Bank, as various entities, including UN agencies, have been denouncing.

Israel continues its military attacks against the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip, imposing a blockade on the entry of urgently needed humanitarian aid, methodically destroying basic infrastructure, and occupying parts of this Palestinian territory.

In the West Bank, Israeli settlers and military forces continue to attack the Palestinian population, and Israeli authorities decide to expand the settlements.

The Israeli parliament recently approved a law that applies the death penalty to Palestinians convicted by Israeli military courts.

Israel also attacks those seeking to deliver humanitarian aid to the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip, assaulting and seizing their vessels in international waters and arbitrarily detaining these activists.

The violence unleashed by Israel against the Palestinian population has reached unprecedented proportions, constituting a genuine genocide, as declared by the International Court of Justice.

There are countless violations of international law by Israel, including disregard for United Nations resolutions.

It is imperative that the European Union take a position condemning Israel's policy of occupation, colonization, and genocide, and take effective and consistent action to ensure compliance with international law, particularly the establishment of a Palestinian state, as mandated by UN resolutions for decades.

The inaction of the European Union institutions in the face of Israel's policy of occupation, colonization, and genocide against the Palestinian people is politically and morally unacceptable and indefensible.

In light of the above, the undersigned Members of Parliament request that, as President of the European Parliament, you initiate the process of urgently convening an exceptional plenary session of the Parliament, pursuant to the second paragraph of Article 160(4) of the Rules of Procedure of the European Parliament, with the sole item on the agenda being the dramatic worsening of the situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank as a consequence of Israel's systematic policy of violence.

Holding this debate is not only necessary, it is imperative! The European Parliament and the European Union cannot remain silent in the face of Israel's systematic violations of international law.

This urgent debate in the European Parliament is crucial, cannot be postponed, and is a matter of justice.
