The Paraguayan Communist Party (Partido Comunista Paraguayo, PCP) entered the 4 October 2026 municipal elections after a period of internal political and organisational preparation.

Its 10th National Congress, held on 8–10 May, reviewed the party’s political and ideological development since 2016, discussed a programme for the coming five years and prepared the organisation for its centenary in 2028. Strengthening the revolutionary organisation of workers and advancing the struggle for socialism and communism were central themes of the congress.
The PCP’s electoral participation was geographically limited: it fielded candidates for the Asunción municipal council rather than running its own mayoral candidate. Its 16-person list was headed by María Teresa Denis de Acosta, while General Secretary Najeeb Amado appeared as a substitute candidate. The party participated through List 10, the United Socialist Alliance (Alianza Socialista Unida, ASU).
On 4 October, the PCP’s public-facing activity included electoral monitoring. Amado reported that the alliance’s representatives at polling stations had submitted accounts of alleged irregularities in several parts of the capital.
In statements reported by Última Hora, he accused Colorado Party operators of engaging in vote-buying, voter inducement and intimidation of opposition representatives. He also alleged improper use of party identification and the presence of unauthorised party tents at polling places. Amado argued that these practices required an organised response.
The ASU list received 2,659 votes, approximately 1% of the vote, and won no seats on Asunción’s 24-member municipal council, according to the published results breakdown.
