Communist Youth Of Chile commences celebrations of their 94th anniversary

The event, brought together members and supporters for a day that combined dance, music, and political slogans. In the early Chilean Independence Day atmosphere, young communists performed a series of cueca steps in one of the capital's primary squares.

Maintaining joy as a form of resistance against the current political climate was advocated by Catalina Lufín Pacheco, the youth secretary. “Faced with adversity, we, the youth of Chile, clearly declare that our trench is joy,” she said, adding that the belief in creating “a more just country” remains undiminished among communist youth.

Lufín directly targeted the far-right government led by José Antonio Kast from the location where the country's historical most significant social demonstrations have occurred. “They’re so bothered by our occupation of the streets,” she declared, adding, “We’ll never leave, nor will we ever tire of filling the streets and avenues with the colour, joy, and rebellious spirit that characterizes the working-class youth of our country.”

In a context characterized by the emergence of far-right viewpoints that aspire to appropriate the national anthem and flag, Lufín also addressed the controversy surrounding national symbols. “There are those who have wanted to keep the flag in their pockets, take the anthem home, and claim that only a few have the pride to say they are Chilean,” she stated, before asserting that “the homeland belongs to those who work for it and to that youth who, day after day, still dare to dream.”

The organizers of the event intended to emphasize the sense of Chilean identity and the joy of the youth, despite the challenging political situation the country is currently facing, through a display of flags, colors, and folk dancing. With this activity, the JJCC kicked off a series of celebrations to commemorate its 94 years of history.
