Communist Party proposes United Front for immediate material gains

Communist Party on elections in Britain: we do not mourn, we organise to win

As the Labour suffers heavy losses in the elections, the Communist Party proposes a United Front to win immediate material gains.

The 2026 elections in England, Scotland and Wales marked a heavy defeat for the Labour government led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the latter suffering significant losses, such as dropping over 1,100 councillors and losing control of 28 councils nationwide. On May 9, the day that marks the final military defeat of Nazi fascism, the Communist Party published an official statement about the election results. Throughout a highly fragmented electoral map, the message that the party clearly grasps is an overwhelming rejection of the politics and personnel of the current Labour government.

Observing the movement of the far-right from the fringes to the centre ground, the Communist Party calls for a broad United Front of the working class, a mass movement that demands “immediate material difference to the streets we live on: bringing water and energy back into public hands to slash bills and launching the construction of council housing at scale not seen for generations.”

Extending gratitude to its own candidates and activists who provided a vital socialist alternative, the party focuses on future mobilisation: “We do not mourn these results: we organise to win.”
