The Political Office of the Communist Front and the National Secretariat of the Communist Youth Front (FGC) condemned in a joint statement the planned mass layoffs of 1.700 workers by the multinational Electrolux, as well as the planned closure of several facilities, including the one of Cerreto dâEsi, in the province of Ancona.
Communist Front - Italy condemns planned mass layoffs
The statement titled âLet The Bosses Pay For The âRestructuringââ expressed their concern and deep outrage at the announcement, and pointed out that this social disaster was caused by the search of capital for low-cost labour, supposedly for âgreater competitivenessâ. âWe express our solidarity and full support for the ongoing mobilisation and strike action organised by the workers and their trade unions, above all the FIOM â CGIL. Communists stand shoulder to shoulder with the workers at the factory gates, as happened this morning in the province of Ancona, and in the streets: we believe it is necessary to respond decisively to the arrogance of bosses and financial funds who think they can do as they please, after pocketing billions in profits and receiving nearly âŹ13 million in public subsidies over the last ten years. If anyone is to pay for this ârestructuringâ, it certainly must not be the workers, but those who have made a fortune on the backs and sweat of the workers.â said the statement.
The statement further blamed the policies of the Meloni government, pointing out that the mass layoffs by Electrolux are part of a pattern that also repeated itself for the workers of GKN, ILVA, MAGNETI MARELLI and other enterprises. âOnce again, the anti-worker nature of the policies of a government that is the best ally of industrialists and speculators is laid bare.â the statement pointed out. The statement called for increased workersâ mobilisation and for a broader struggle. The statement ended with âFaced with the prospect of mass redundancies, unemployment and war, we must unite the workersâ front to demand that production and labour be under their control to meet the needs of the people, not under that of speculators and financial funds. Itâs either our lives or their profits!â
