Unsere Zeit Peace Days (UZ-Friedenstage) is a political and cultural peace festival organised around Unsere Zeit (UZ), the weekly newspaper of the German Communist Party (DKP – Deutsche Kommunistische Partei). The 2026 event will take place 28–30 August 2026 in Berlin, at and around Franz-Mehring-Platz 1 (FMP1), near Ostbahnhof.
German Communist Party organises UZ Peace Days
It is essentially the successor, in a different format, to the DKP's traditional UZ Press Festival (UZ-Pressefest). The first UZ-Friedenstage were held in Berlin in August 2024 after several venues for a planned UZ Press Festival had been cancelled for political reasons. More than 3,500 people attended the 2024 event.
The festival combines political discussions, international solidarity, cultural events and concerts. Its political programme focuses heavily on peace and anti-militarism, opposition to German rearmament and NATO, workers' and trade-union struggles, antifascism, internationalism, Cuba and Palestine.
The international dimension is particularly important. The organisers describe the event as a festival of international solidarity, with political delegations and activists from communist and workers' movements participating. Solidarity with Cuba and Palestine, as well as opposition to the militarisation of Germany and the deployment of new US missiles in Germany, have been prominent themes.
There is also a substantial cultural component—concerts, literary events, discussions and social gatherings. The 2026 programme includes artists such as Banda Bassotti, Bejarano & Microphone Mafia, Pablo Miró, Kai Degenhardt and others. The organisers describe it as a place where people involved in the peace, workers' and progressive movements can meet, exchange experiences and organise.
The 2026 event is explicitly being promoted under the slogan “Gemeinsam kämpfen – gemeinsam feiern!” (“Fight together – celebrate together!”).
