CP of Peru - Patria Roja celebrates 98th anniversary
The event commemorated the party’s origins in the socialist organisation founded by José Carlos Mariátegui on 7 October 1928. The party reported that its headquarters was filled with members, supporters, guests and representatives of other left-wing political forces.
The event brought together senior party leaders and representatives of allied political and social sectors. The presidium included party president Alberto Moreno Rojas, General Secretary Julio Mendoza GarcÃa and Political Bureau member Karina Poclin. Héctor Béjar, a former Peruvian foreign minister, and Domingo Cabrera Toro, General Secretary of the Peruvian Communist Party (PCP), also attended.
Mendoza opened the gathering, followed by greetings from Béjar and Cabrera. Sophia MejÃa spoke on behalf of the Communist Youth, Valeria Mariátegui represented Communist Women, and Victoria Huatuco spoke for the Lima regional committees. Michelle RodrÃguez provided the musical programme, while Gladys Olórtegui led the anniversary toast. Moreno delivered the main political address.
The party received solidarity messages from numerous communist and workers' parties from across the world.
